It’s 2016, our holiday break is over, and we’re excited to be back at it! From the WhyDev blog to our recently achieved not-for-profit status to multiple ongoing initiatives, there’s a lot happening this year. And with all that’s going on at WhyDev, we’re looking to fill TWO positions on our team. Is one of them the position for you?
We’re looking for a new Editor-in-Chief. This person is responsible for the WhyDev blog, from big-picture strategising to nitty-gritty proofreading, and also edits the Last Week Today newsletter and assists with social media. Must love fixing grammar, finding typos and removing Z’s. (Applications due 31 January.)
We’re ALSO looking for a new Communications Coordinator, who plays a key role in promoting the WhyDev brand, which is especially critical during our transition to a full-fledged not-for-profit organisation. This person also creates daily social media content, writes the weekly newsletter and identifies fundraising opportunities. Must be a Facebook fanatic, LinkedIn lover and Twitter talent. (Applications due 26 January.)
If you love development and communications, and you want to be part of a team working to make the development sector better, apply now!
WhyDev in 2016
In addition to bringing two new members onto the team, we’re also looking forward to continuing our work through a number of channels this year.
Blog: We’re super proud to have reached 600 blog posts before the end of last year, and are always accepting submissions for the blog. If you’re interested in writing for us, check out our submissions guidelines, and send in your post.
MissionCreep: Since we love talking almost as much as writing, the MissionCreep podcast is our second-favourite medium for rants, raves and critical thoughts about development. Have a listen to past episodes, covering topics from bras to climate change to Taylor Swift (and everything in between), and stay tuned for more this year.
Events: 2015 was WhyDev’s year of events, including our first-ever event in the U.S. Watch this space for news on upcoming events in Melbourne, Boston and elsewhere, plus a special series we’ll be hosting on the SDGs.
Colab m: We’ve just wrapped up the first semester of our online mentoring program with Monash University, and the second semester will be starting soon, pairing more aspiring development workers with seasoned professionals from around the world.
Fellowship: Remember the WhyDev fellows you supported in their fundraising campaigns last year? Both Michela and Prue have arrived in Cambodia and started their work with SHE Investments. It won’t be long now until we’re ready to recruit our second group of fellows. If you’re interested in gaining development experience in Cambodia and getting support from WhyDev, check back for an announcement about applying.
Why We Dev: Through this Q&A series, we give readers a chance to ask all their questions to development experts. We most recently hosted Ricardo Fuentes-Nieva, CEO of Oxfam Mexico. Check out our chat with him, and follow the blog for announcements on upcoming guests.
Last Week Today: Our weekly newsletter covers the most important development-related news items and top blog posts and stories from the sector, delivered with a dash of WhyDev’s signature humour (and often a pop culture reference or two). If you’re not already getting Last Week Today, sign up in the left sidebar on our homepage.
Partnerships: We’re happy to have worked in partnership with many other like-minded organisations over the past year. We’re always interested in new partnerships and more collaboration, so if you have an idea, please get in touch.
2016 promises to be a big year for WhyDev, and we can’t wait to share it with all of you–thank you, as always, for reading!
