Are you a recent graduate or in your final year of university studies and looking for international development experience abroad? Are you committed to gender equality and looking to hone your skills working for a social enterprise?
We’re currently recruiting for two roles for our WhyDev Fellowship program to work with SHE Investments in Cambodia.
We’re after a Monitoring & Evaluation Support Officer and a Communications & Grants Support Officer for a minimum of 4-6 months, based at SHE Investments in Phnom Penh.
SHE supports female entrepreneurs by providing business training, mentoring and ongoing business support to help their businesses scale and create economic and social impact.
Tanya Fenwick is one of WhyDev’s 2016 Fellows, who recently returned from working with SHE as a Monitoring & Evaluation officer.
Here’s what she had to say about her experience:
Breaking into the development sector can be a pretty hard feat. You can have the passion, knowledge and degree, but this doesn’t always translate into a job (paid or unpaid). The WhyDev Fellowship program provided me with an avenue into the sector, and a taste of what it may be like to work internationally. By working with SHE Investments, I came away with concrete skills and a practical understanding of monitoring and evaluation, an area that I was previously interested in exploring.
At the same time, I was thrust into the reality of the ‘expat world’ in Cambodia and had to figure out where I stood as a privileged individual wanting to do good development in a country that was not my own. If you’re passionate about development, ready to be disoriented, open to new cultures and keen to listen and learn from others, then start applying!
SHE’s core programs are the SHE Incubator and Accelerator Programs for women micro-entrepreneurs. The purpose of these programs is to support women with existing businesses of varying sizes, through culturally tailored business training and mentoring, to help them to scale and create impact for families and communities. SHE aims to bridge the gender gap in the SME sector and fill the “missing middle” between the Microfinance and SME private sectors in developing countries.
SHE also partners with different organisations to deliver programs that focus on the economic empowerment of women through financial literacy and entrepreneurship, and holds various events and workshops for women in Cambodia, including the annual SHE Conference in Phnom Penh.
